Our staff welcomes you to Horry County Adult Education.

Horry County Schools Adult and Community Education is now an official GED testing site.  You can find information about the testing dates and registration process by selecting the Programs tab and GED.

The adult education program is open to any person who is at least eighteen (18) years old and who is not currently enrolled in a regular high school program. Students may enroll at any time during the year. Check the schedule of the location nearest you and make the call today.

Students who are seventeen (17) may be eligible to attend adult education. Seventeen-year-old students must meet with an adult education teacher and a determination of whether adult education is an option will be decided. Call 488-6200 to schedule an appointment. The student must bring a parent/guardian and a transcript from his/her high school. If you are a student from out of district or from out of state, you must sign for a sealed transcript to be mailed to our center. Seventeen year olds may attend at any of the available times, but an hourly requirement per week applies for continual enrollment.

Students must have an official letter of withdrawal from their previous high school.  This must be signed by the appropriate people listed in the document.  A printable version of this document is available in Word or pdf form.

ESL
Students wishing to enroll in classes in order to learn the English language will need to select their location and inquire about the testing opportunities and dates at that location.

Registration Fee
A $20 registration fee is charged to all students..

High School Diploma Course
A $25 fee is charged for each high school course needed according to the official transcript. Students must fulfill the requirements for a high school diploma that are in effect at the time of the student's graduation. These also include a state residency requirement and the Exit Examination.

GED Program
The cost for enrollment in the GED program is $25. The official GED test costs $80 and is paid to the SC Department of Adult Education at the time of test registration.

Graduation
The Adult Education Program has a county-wide graduation ceremony in which graduates of all the centers participate. The ceremony is held for those graduates who have earned either a diploma, a certificate, or a GED. No distinction is made between credentials for our graduates. All graduates are encouraged to participate in the Spring Graduation.
