Horry County Schools Adult Education Receives State Honors

Horry County Schools Adult Education won the Palmetto Trend Setters Award from the S.C. Department of Education for meeting or exceeding the national pass rate of 70 percent for all students taking the General Education Development (GED) exam. The award was given at the state department’s 10th annual “Celebrating Our Success” luncheon held in Columbia Nov. 18.
Magadlene Wilson received the Administrative Staff Hall of Fame Award for 10 years of service to adult education, while Laura Brooks, Susan Jones and Christine Mee each received the Teachers’ Hall of Fame Award for 10 years of adult education teaching.
HCS Adult Education also was acknowledged for its 2011 inaugural Technology Literacy Conference at the Beach, an international three-day symposium on integrating technology into literacy teaching and learning. The 2012 conference will be held March 29-31 with keynote speakers Willard Daggett, Alan November and Kathy Schrock.
